WHAT IS CISS?

The Central Iowa Scholastic Shooters (CISS) is a member organization of the Steel Challenge Shooting Association.   Our specific focus is in a Youth Development Program where adult coaches and volunteers model sportsmanship, responsibility, and teamwork while using shooting sports programs to teach these and other positive life skills to participating athletes.

CISS members participate in SCSA -sanctioned speed shooting competitions with other SCSA/USPSA mebers at the local and state  level. All shooting is done with rimfire or centerfire handguns as well as rimfire rifles and pistol caliber carbines. in a controlled and supervised environment.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Due to current State of Iowa law, CISS handgun participants are open to any Central-Iowa youth between the ages of 14 and 20. Previous handgun shooting experience is not required, just the desire to learn and compete in a team environment. Under 14 is the  Rimfire Rifle division which will allow us to open up CISS to even those under the age of 14 who would like to get involved in competition! More details will be available at our open house events.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM OPERATE?

CISS is a not-for-profit organization funded through member dues and the generosity of sponsoring organizations and individuals. Program administration and coaching is provided by adult volunteers committed to helping young shooters foster an interest in the shooting sports, learn the value of competition, and develop positive character traits.

The Ankeny Isaac Walton League south of Elkhart, Iowa is “home base” for CISS. Weekly practices are held from April through July with periodic matches held with other Iowa-based clubs.
